In a battle of youth v experience, it is a tie at the top at the halfway point of the Headland Golf Club Men’s Club Championship.
In today’s second round, 19 year-old Ben Duncombe teed off early, walked the course, and came in with the only sub-par round of the Championship – a one-under-par 67 on the shortened course. By contrast, 53 year-old Wayne West (pictured) teed off late in the day, rode in a cart, wore a knee brace and spoke pre-round of taking pain-killers this morning! Wayne was under par early, but closed with a 2-over score of 70.
Ben and Wayne are tied atop the leaderboard at 7-over-par, one stroke clear of Matt Prince – who backed up his first round 71 with another solid score of 73 today. Sean McGill and Justin Nicholson are a further stroke back on a crowded leaderboard that has 8 players with five shots of the lead.
The ever-consistent Denis Orr has played his way to the lead in B Grade after rounds of 82 and 79, and is just one ahead of Ian Farringtron and Gary Clarke, while Ross Itzstein and overnight leader Mick Prince head up C Grade.
Sam Fichera remains on target to claim the Junior Championship after rounds of 88.84, and Scott Bromfield is five strokes clear of Darren MacLeod in the Senior Championship.
